Huperzia

A small Asian plant, Huperzia, called Qian Ceng Ta” in China, is used in traditional Chinese medicine as an ingredient in preparations intended for the treatment of a wide range of disorders. It is best known for its action on memory and cognitive functions .

It contains a unique alkaloid: Huperzine A , partly responsible for the effects attributed to the plant.

Indeed, Huperzine A is an inhibitor of acetylcholinesterase , the enzyme responsible for the degradation of acetylcholine at the synaptic cleft of cholinergic neurons. However, in the brain, the transmission of information between neurons is done thanks to acetylcholine in certain cases. Acetylcholine is thus an important neurotransmitter of the central nervous system where it is involved in memory and learning . By blocking the enzyme that degrades acetylcholine, Huperzine A increases the availability of the neurotransmitter in the synaptic cleft.

It is an interesting plant for people concerned with maintaining optimal cognitive functions , from students during revision periods to seniors in everyday life.

We use Huperzia in B-Brain to contribute to the proper functioning of memory and learning.
